Catastrophe: Season 1

Catastrophe: Season 1 Poster
Posted on July 4, 2015 by James Shults

First Aired: January 19, 2015

Creator: Sharon Horgan, Rob Delaney

Overall Rating: Good

An American man on a business trip to London has an affair with an Irish woman which results in a pregnancy.

The Good

Catastrophe is the perfect blend of drama and comedy, tightly balancing its tone through both silly and serious moments. The main characters, played by Rob Delaney and Sharon Horgan, are also the creators of the show. Their chemistry together is undeniable. These are two people we want to watch go through all of their catastrophes, big and small.

The Bad

Throughout the first half of the season, every supporting character seems despicable. While the supporting characters are funny, the only two people on screen that are remotely likable are the Rob Delaney and Sharon Horgan characters. Fortunately, the supporting characters of Catastrophe are given a bit more depth in the second half of the season.

The Ugly

The first season of Catastrophe is only six episodes long. At 22 minutes an episode, you’re not getting much. The good news is that those six episodes are pure quality. Hopefully the second season will be quite a bit longer.
