Get a Job

Get a Job Movie Review
Posted on March 28, 2016 by James Shults

Release Date: March 25, 2016

Director: Dylan Kidd

Overall Rating: Bad

Will (Miles Teller) and Jillian (Anna Kendrick) have just graduated college and must now find their place in a professional world.

The Good

There are some fun┬ámoments in this easy to watch, lighthearted comedy. There’s also a descent cast which includes Miles Teller, Anna Kendrick, Alison Brie and Bryan Cranston among others.

The Bad

The Will character is not well defined. He’s whoever the movie needs him to be in the moment. He’s professional in one scene then unprofessional in another. Neither is motivated. He’s willing to do whatever it takes be to successful in one scene. Then unwilling to conform in the next. It’s difficult to care for such an undefined character in a movie filled with uninspired characters.

The Ugly

The movie cuts away to Will’s friends as they follow their own professional pursuits. While these scenes are kind of fun, they don’t serve the story. It isn’t clear if Get a Job is a coming of age story, a romantic comedy or a crude comedy. It juggles each of these but not effectively.
