Release Date: August 7, 2015

Director: Josh Trank

Overall Rating: Bad

Four young adults unexpectedly gain super powers after traveling to another dimension.

The Good

The first half of Fantastic Four is an interesting take on the comic book series. Director Josh Trank sets up a dark science-fiction film with a tinge of horror. It’s intriguing and engaging if only for just a while.

The Bad

The movie unravels steadily as it goes along, almost forcing itself to its abrupt ending. It moves along so quick that it doesn’t stop to give us time or reason to care about anything on the screen. It just hits its beats and moves along.

The Ugly

While the effects of Fantastic Four are not remarkable, they are still interesting in parts. When Reed Richards first becomes aware of his powers, it’s an intense and scary scene. The effects really win in that moment, along with the cinematography and the way Miles Teller plays it. There are plenty of false moments in the movie but there are also a handful of great moments like this one.
