Release Date: August 7, 2015

Director: Jon Watts

Overall Rating: Good

Adolescent brothers find an unattended cop car and decide to take it for a ride.

The Good

Cop Car takes a bare bones script and delivers a sparse, tense thriller. There’s not too much more to the story than the synopsis but it’s enough. After the owner of the cop car in question enters the movie (Kevin Bacon), things heat up and don’t cool down until the credits roll.

The Bad

There is a bit of character development for the two young brothers at the beginning of the movie. It’s a fun scene where one brother is listing off curse words and the other repeats the words almost begrudgingly. This is really all the depth our main characters are given. Nothing more.

The Ugly

You’re not going to get any backstory in Cop Car. There are few pieces you may be able to put together but the movie doesn’t spell anything out beyond the action that’s on the screen. The good news is you don’t need anything more to understand the stakes.
