Director: Joe Dante
A young man is about to break up with his girlfriend but she gets killed just moments before he does. Things get more complicated when she returns from the dead.
The story is fine. Burying the Ex has a concept that works well enough: a guy’s overbearing girlfriend turns into a zombie. It’s a concept that has a lot of possibilities baked into it, giving the writer lots of room for drama and comedy.
The main actor, Anton Yelchin, is kind of boring. I’m not sure why the Ashley Greene character would be interested in him or why the audience would be interested in him. He’s not charming in Burying the Ex. He’s just there.
This is director Joe Dante on a budget and it plays like a made for TV movie. Unfortunately, it isn’t exceptional despite the low budget. It’s probably worth a watch but you would be better off revisiting Joe Dante’s previous work, such as Gremlins, The ‘Burbs or the underrated Innerspace.« « While We’re Young | What If » »
