Years after the traumatic loss of their child during pregnancy, a well-to-do couple decides to adopt and have the expecting mother live in their home.
The novelty of A Deadly Adoption works. The two main players, Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig, who are typically comic actors, play their parts perfectly straight. There’s no winking at the camera here. No hamming it up. They play out the tropes of a typical Lifetime channel movie and the end result is pretty entertaining.
This movie is a good watch but it’s a movie you’re only ever going to watch once. What makes it bad is also what makes it worth watching: it’s a novelty. A Deadly Adoption is a promotional tool for its two main actors. It’s a movie people will be interested in watching once but it won’t make it into many people’s movie libraries.
There is something about A Deadly Adoption that is a little gross, particularly when you take into account that there were likely many Lifetime regulars who worked on this movie. Were they in on the joke, too? I sure hope so.« « Creep | Bound to Vengeance » »
